2008 gearing up!
Friday, 01 February 2008 00:15

2008 sees an exciting time for the newly christened 'Classic 2CV Racing Club' as it returns to its roots and presents a series of 8 high action, high drama, 25 minute Sprint Races spread over just 4 Rounds. With new Club Chairman Sir Aubrey Brocklebank and a dedicated and pro-active committee, a format has been established to provide the ultimate balance of low cost, close competition and fun.

Prepaid discounted full season entries of just £1160 have been introduced this year and demand has exceeded all expectations. Currently there is only one remaining slot available from the 25 on offer. Further entries will be taken on a race by race basis, with tracks such as Silverstone accepting up to 40 cars.

Below is the list of the already confirmed racers for 2008:

1 Andy Pirt
2 Andy Smith/Mad Pete
3 Aubrey Brocklebank

22 The "Secret Entry" # 2
23 Trevor Williams
24 Wayne Cowling

In addition, the Classic 2CV Racing Club will run the now legendary 2CV 24 Hour race as a season finale, held at Snetterton on August 9th and 10th.

Now in its twentieth year, 2CV Racing continues to go from strength to strength, moving on from a successful 2007, which saw Philip Myatt gain his 2nd championship crown. He will be returning to fight his title, but plenty of other top flight drivers will be out next season to put up the challenge. These include the ever quick Wayne Cowling searching for the ultimate prize after finishing a runner up twice. 2007 race winner Trevor Williams will aim to make this year his own, whilst brothers Richard and Matthew Hollis hope to continue their winning streak in their identically liveried machines.

In fairness, the closeness of the competition means it could actually be anyone's year and when the cars line up for the opening 2 rounds at Silverstone, the ensuing action will be the real first indicator of the likely challengers.

Indeed expert and amateur drivers go hand in hand in 2CV Racing, with the race tuned 602cc engines ensuring power is at a premium and racing is super close. Slipstreaming and 3 or 4 a breast into a corner is commonplace leading to jaw dropping spectator viewing and bumper to bumper, wheel to wheel driver action.
