To meet revised MSA requirements, refuelling during the 2011 race will be from special plastic 'tuff jugs', which have a valve to prevent spills, and only dispense fuel when pressed onto a suitable filler neck. .
The club is developing the design of these which will be a mandatory issue for all cars – but the costs will be much lower than for the standard dry-break refueling systems which are sold as being MSA compliant for normally > £1000!
The cost is expected to be less than £150 for the jug and filler neck. They will be sold to teams in advance of the 24hr and there should be at least 1 car at Mallory (May 30th) using the new system as a trial. Also note that the refueller and the fire extinguisher holder will both need fire-resistant overalls, fire-resistant balaclava and fire-resistant gloves. The overalls can be out-of-date racing overalls and Proban should be acceptable also. Some teams also equip both people with polycarbonate goggles. Each team must bring its own fire extinguisher.
