Well that's another 24hr meeting over and what a brilliant weekend it was!
Is it me or am I correct in my belief that the Classic 2cv 24hr event just gets better every year? Certainly the various comments that I have received from both seasoned and virgin 2cv 24hr marshals help to confirm my feelings! It certainly seems easier to gain support as each year as the word spreads around the marshalling community.
We had many Marshals assisting this year who had travelled many miles from all parts of the Country, including many 2cv 24hr first timers and I would wish to take this opportunity to personally thank you all for your support and hope to see you back next year!
At least the pre-ordered Snetterton Sun was safely delivered although we did have to pay the unplanned price of the early morning fog this time. Memo to self to ensure we include a check of the small print in the weather contract prior to next year's race!!
As always the Classic 2cv Racing Club has provided superbly entertaining and extremely competitive racing throughout the weekend that would be the envy of many other classes of racing. This is a credit to every single person within the Club, whether a driver, mechanic, helper, team manager or club official.
The pure enthusiasm and willingness of everyone to make the event the success that is totally evident to all to see. The manner in which all the teams will willingly help each other, even if it happens to be their closest competitor, to ensure that they can finish the race is a pleasure to observe. I would like to say a sincere Thank You to the 2CV club for their fantastic hospitality throughout the weekend, the BBQ, the goodie bags, and to Martin and the team for the marshals radio's and the 24hr Radio commentary which certainly kept everyone updated with the race progress, and was entertaining during the down period. To Chris for all his work on the website and with the Webcast which was a fantastic achievement.
It was brilliant to see so many at the Presentation and BBQ afterwards the race -all the Snetterton post race de-brief regulars plus the Cadwell Mafia, Dean and Family, Mandy, Teresa, Mike, Nick, Pete H, John, Dave, Hannah, John, Pete B, Vickie, Darren and many others too.
Thanks to the 2cv Racing Club for a superb night's entertainment. I think the entertainer's result was a 1-1 draw (just!) between the Marshals and the 2cv Club - Well done John for upholding the Team Orange reputation and Kevin for the competition!!
Congratulations to all the teams (well done Paul & Tete Rouge- well deserved) and great to have a chat with Paul, Wayne, Steve, Pete and Ollie and many others during the evening. A big thank you to the Caterham Safety car driving team, - the rumour is that they want to enter a team next year as they were so impressed with your cornering speed and the ability to tow each other round so closely lap after lap!!
Also to John Watson, Chris Bird and the deserter from the 2cv 24hr Pit Wall - Andy Lambert, who after looking after Jez Clark and being left out in the wet on the pit wall over the past few years was press ganged at short notice into the Safety Car Observers role!! Thanks team for all your assistance over the weekend - it was appreciated by all involved.
Also thanks to all the MSV team, Jamie, Debs, Alan, Andy, Gary & the Tyrrells team for all their hard work and for being so helpful over the weekend with the provision of the rest area for the marshals, which was appreciated at the end of a night shift!
To the team in Race Control, thanks for controlling us all so well! Alex & the Red Rocket team you're just so great at giving everyone a lift when it's required! To Mike Whitney and Pete Harding - you are the Masters of the Shift Rota's - brilliant job again guys! Pete H - you have the list of names for next year!!! Hannah is top of the list!
So how about a 30hr race in 2010 to include the bit we missed this year???
It won't be long to wait!
