2009 24hr Experiences

These are some of the messages from the marshals who attended the 2009 24hr 2CV race, detailing their experiences and thoughts:

This was my first ever 24hour event, and at the age of 19 all of my mates were a bit perplexed at why I wanted to go and stand in a field watching small, slow(ish) French cars drive around an airbase all day and night.

I too had my doubts, but it was utterly fantastic. The racing kept going right down into the last hour, some drivers put in incredible drives, and summing it all up was the number 60 College car that finished a valiant 200 laps or so behind!

It was my 1st 24hr race and didn't really know what to expect as I'd heard from lots of people it was a boring meeting. Well, you know what; those who don't do this meeting are the one's missing out on a whole load of fun.

The race was absolutely fab, I couldn't believe that the cars kept so close together for the entire duration, let alone kept going! One team did 9 or 10 engine changes I believe! I was in the hospitality room during one of my off shifts and there was a car having an engine change in the garage. It came out and got about 10ft and broke down again, was pushed back into the garage and another engine change was underway!

Thanks for supporting the 2009 24hr race!

Well that's another 24hr meeting over and what a brilliant weekend it was!

Is it me or am I correct in my belief that the Classic 2cv 24hr event just gets better every year? Certainly the various comments that I have received from both seasoned and virgin 2cv 24hr marshals help to confirm my feelings! It certainly seems easier to gain support as each year as the word spreads around the marshalling community.

We had many Marshals assisting this year who had travelled many miles from all parts of the Country, including many 2cv 24hr first timers and I would wish to take this opportunity to personally thank you all for your support and hope to see you back next year!

All of the marshalling and rescue teams for brilliant teamwork and for being so willing and flexible throughout the weekend enabling the shifts to work.
