Ten racing 2CVs attended Croft circuit in North Yorkshire on Thursday 2nd of May to test out a new exhaust system, designed to comply with Croft's noise limits.
All cars attending were fitted with twin silencer exhaust systems, with the exit placed on the offside rear. The test went very well, and a static noise test produced only 83-87 db.
It will now be a mandatory requirement to use this type of exhaust for the races at Croft this year.
If you need any help or advice with this, ask on the forum, or contact Philip Myatt.

On the bank holiday Monday at the end of May, a thilling couple of races took place at the scenic Mallory Park circuit in Leicester, under some quite difficult conditions.
The rain continued to come down all day, as befits a bank holiday! But the Dodo Juice 2CV challenge racers fought bravely in the drizzle to provide some of the best and closest racing - televised LIVE on Motors TV!
Commentators Martin Haven and Charlie Butler-Henderson were enthusiastic about the close but mostly clean racing - something that not all races on the day could manage.
In the first Dodo Juice 2CV challenge, Sammie Fritchley just pipped Phil Myatt to the win by just 38 thousandths of a second! David O'Keeffe joined them on the podium in 3rd.
The second Dodo Juice 2CV challenge race was a similarly close affair, with Paul Robertson taking the honours from Greg Wheeler by just 51 thousandths of a second! A particularly brilliant drive from Paul, after taking some time off racing due to ill health - this was his first race back, and already he's planning his next outing. Joining Paul and Greg on the podium was Peter Rundle, only 3 tenths of a second behind Greg.

Volunteers required. Croft has very strict noise limits placed on it by the local council, and in our efforts to find an alternative venue for the 24hr (our date at Snetterton is under threat in 2012) we need to see if we can be quiet enough to be compliant. To help move things forward we have organised a days noise testing at Croft on 2nd June. Due to the noise restrictions we may be only able to run for 15mins in every 30min but it is very important for us to gather data and try to understand the implications of how much noise we make. We need to have a number of cars running on the circuit so that we can monitor the noise both trackside and in the local village.

To meet revised MSA requirements, refuelling during the 2011 race will be from special plastic 'tuff jugs', which have a valve to prevent spills, and only dispense fuel when pressed onto a suitable filler neck. .
The club is developing the design of these which will be a mandatory issue for all cars – but the costs will be much lower than for the standard dry-break refueling systems which are sold as being MSA compliant for normally > £1000!
The cost is expected to be less than £150 for the jug and filler neck. They will be sold to teams in advance of the 24hr and there should be at least 1 car at Mallory (May 30th) using the new system as a trial. Also note that the refueller and the fire extinguisher holder will both need fire-resistant overalls, fire-resistant balaclava and fire-resistant gloves. The overalls can be out-of-date racing overalls and Proban should be acceptable also. Some teams also equip both people with polycarbonate goggles. Each team must bring its own fire extinguisher. |
