This article is a compendium of reports from various teams taking part in the 2009 24hr 2CV race, detailing their experiences (both good and bad!), mishaps, catastrophies, and amusing anecdotes.
First up is a report from Mary Lindsay of Team 77, Inworth Racing Extravaganza:
Dramas included an engine change because we lost compression on one cylinder; starter motor change; alternator wire fell off - no charge for the last 2 hours. Wild Thing was kept going only by the proximity of the nearest opposition and the frantic arm waving from the pit wall. (Both driver and car too frightened to come in!)

Now remember, qualifying 2 takes place just after qualifying 1, but well before race 1, so now the conditions on the track were slippery again. But the sun was out, and it was tempting to push that little bit harder. First to realise this was not a good idea was Hollis, who got away with what could have been a very nasty incident thanks to the edge of the gravel trap at Druids, which slowed him sufficiently to rejoin. Myatt, the crazy fool that he is, tried to take the first corner in 4th gear (which is fine in the dry but not so good in the wet) and off he went into the barrier. But Myatt, the lucky guy that he also is, managed to get back on the track though he didn't really need to, having already set the quickest time! Second was Neil Thompson (taking over once again from wife Christine), ahead of Wilkinson, Turner (in Brocklebank's car), Robinson in a new career best 5th, Panas (taking over from Cowling) and Hindley.

Just a few weeks after Cadwell Park, the 2CV Racing circus set up camp at Oulton Park in Cheshire. Last year the event had been dominated by three people - Pete Sparrow, Mark Turner and Phil Myatt. The latter would be looking to dominate again this year, whilst Turner would have to make do with just the one race, again sharing driving duties with club chairman Aubrey Brocklebank. Sparrow meanwhile wasn't racing at all. But there were plenty of other drivers that would be hoping to claim the spoils in the races that could make or break their chances.

Rewind a few hours before the first race had started and you would have witnessed the second qualifying session. Following his engine trouble in the first session, Derek Coghill had to sit this one out, immediately placing him 19th and last on the grid. At the sharp end it was Steve Panas who managed to secure pole position despite ending his qualifying in the barriers at the bottom of the Gooseneck after an off-track excursion. Fortunately the damage was not so severe as to prevent him from racing. Joining him on the front row was Sammie Fritchley (in place of Myatt), who must have been hoping for another sniff at victory after her performance at Mallory.
