Race 2 got underway towards the end of the race meeting. The track was a little damp, but conditions were dry. There was a touch of diesel down at Hatchets Hairpin (although some would say it was everywhere!) from the truck races earlier in the day. Pete Cardell-Williams started the race in pole, and Darren Baker didn't make the start - his car coasting to a halt on the green flag lap just past Brooklands.

Gary Byatt and Steve Panas made very good starts, but Pete Cardell-Williams (PCW) was the one leading the pack into Hatchets. Panas and Mark Turner were battling. The order on the 1st lap was PCW, Panas, Turner, Riley, R Hollis, Myatt, Wheeler, Byatt, Fritchley.

Phil Myatt was beginning to challenge Richard Hollis as the cars came around for lap 2, and was through at Hatchets. Martin Hindley, after starting from the back of the grid had made up 6 places, and Byatt had made up a place, demoting Wheeler. Jack Gabriel was fighting hard with Benjy Straw for the minor placings, no quarter given between the two, but no damage either.

Although the cars were taking it relatively easy in this, the last race of the day, the slippery conditions were catching some out a little. Matt Riley and Helen Deeley both spun at the Esses on consecutive laps, but weren't collected by any other cars and spun harmlessly to the infield, pride being the only thing damaged in both cases.

Meanwhile others were revelling in the greasy conditions - Hindley was able to get past Wayne Cowling on lap 3, and made another place up on lap 4. With Riley out of the way, Myatt had moved up to 4th, and meanwhile PCW was out at the front building up quite a gap to 2nd place Panas. Further down the field, there was a nice little battle building, with Sadler in the front of the scrap, Gabriel, then Martin Harrold in the Fine Print car, followed by Benjy Straw and Nick Roads. Helen Deeley had rejoined just behind this scrap, and was making up ground on them rapidly.

On lap 5 it was 3 abreast for 5th place with Byatt fending off Richard Hollis and Greg Wheeler. Pete Sparrow's co-driver for the weekend, Keith Shoebridge was challenging Wayne Cowling.

By lap 6, Myatt had made a move up to 3rd and was right behind Panas. Turner was shuffled down the order and ended up 8th, which promoted Byatt to 4th, with Wheeler 5th and Riley 6th. Lap 7 saw Myatt take 2nd place off Panas, Wheeler moving into 3rd. Jack Gabriel went off-roading. Derek Coghill put a move on Wayne Cowling further down the field, with Shoebridge in close contention.

Myatt slipped down briefly to 5th on lap 8, recovering to 3rd, with Wheeler now taking 2nd. Panas was 4th, but Byatt went around the outside of him to take the place. Andrew Pirt and chairman Aubrey battled it out for 12th spot, while Shoebridge lead a pack of cars including Riley, Cowling, Coghill and Straw. Unfortunately this was to end lap 9 with Shoebridge going off at Honda Curve and putting the ECAS cars into the barriers with only minor damage. Helen Deeley had now got past Martin Harrold and Jack Gabriel. Aubrey Brocklebank went wide and Richard Hollis had a nasty looking slide around the Esses.

Lap 10, and Byatt had moved into 2nd, Panas in 3rd, with Wheeler close behind in 4th. Myatt 5th and Richard Hollis 6th. Aubrey wide at the Esses again! Shoebridge was back on track, and just ahead of Nick Roads.

Both Wheeler and Turner were sideways at the Esses on lap 11, with Byatt going slightly wide. Conditions were still greasy, but all the drivers were still pushing hard to gain the advantage. Wheeler was now up to 3rd behind Byatt, with Panas and Myatt in close company. Further down, Matt Hollis had Steve Jaques wanting the same piece of tarmac he was on, with Andrew Pirt and Aubrey Brocklebank not far behind. Sadler and Gabriel were 2 abreast through the Esses.

Hindley was now up to 9th place, going 2 abreast across the finish line on lap 12. Richard Hollis and Mark Turner were battling for 6th, with Sammy Fritchley not too far away in 8th. Matt Hollis meanwhile was just ahead of Hindley, with Aubrey behind them both in 11th. Wayne Cowling and Derek Coghill were still at it for 14th.

Steve Panas dropped a spot on lap 13, down to 5th. It was 2 abreast between Panas and Myatt for a time, with Myatt winning the place. PCW was still out in front with a nice gap between him and Byatt. Wheeler was looking threatened in 3rd from a charging Phil Myatt.

On lap 15, with less than 3 minutes to go, the order was PCW in 1st, then a gap, then Byatt 2nd, Myatt moving up a spot to 3rd, then Wheeler 4th, Panas 5th battling with Rich Hollis 6th, then Turner 7th and Fritchley 8th. Rich Hollis was still fighting with Brocklebank, and Shoebridge had got ahead of Gabriel, who was in turn ahead of Sadler, Straw, and Harrold.

Sammie was pushing hard, and tried to go past Turner the very inside of Dibeni corner, but couldn't make it stick. Hindley was now just behind in 9th. Andrew Pirt had jumped in front of chairman Aubrey for 10th. Matt Hollis slipped down to 12th.

On the last lap, it was still PCW way out in front, with Byatt in a comfortable 2nd. Myatt and Wheeler were fighting hard, with Myatt half-spinning and losing out 3 places. Pirt was challenging Hindley for his 9th spot, and Coghill was again challenging Cowling.

As the chequered flag fell, it was Pete Cardell-Williams taking a rather dominant win from lights to flag. Byatt claimed 2nd place, with Wheeler holding on to 3rd. Panas 4th, Hollis 5th, then a recovering Myatt 6th. 7th was Sammie Fritchley, who managed to get past Mark Turner on the last lap. 9th was Hindley, who had a very good run from the back of the 24 car field. Andrew Pirt rounded out the top 10.
