Race report by Steve Sykes: What’s the worst thing that can happen in practice? Have one of your drivers go off at Copse and then have your other driver crash into them, severely damaging both cars? That was the scenario that confronted the Tete Rouge team at Silverstone. The best thing that could happen under the circumstances? That the race was not until the next day. Cue frantic rebuilding, working till midnight on Saturday, a dash back to Lincolnshire for a spare car onto which were grafted the still usable panels from the totalled shell of Jessica Owen’s car (the resulting red and silver colour scheme was much admired) and both Tete Rouge cars took the start just after lunch on Sunday.

Wayne Cowling didn’t, after managing only five laps in practice, but Sammie Fritchley led off from pole but was swallowed by Nick

Paton and David O’Keeffe (doing a fine job of persuading the commentators he was Mark Waghorn in the Level 42 car), cue a fantastic seven car scrap at the front in which the lead changed hands so many times that you couldn’t possibly document it. Ainslie Bousfield, who had qualified tenth, and Neil Thompson, up from 13th, were the big improvers.

Former champion Phil Myatt was in the mix until he started to drop back with a few laps to go and would eventually park it at Copse three laps from the end with a dead engine. Ainslie Bousfield and Nick Paton would ultimately make contact near the end, Nick being the loser as it relegated him to seventh, while Ainslie held on for third, Sammie taking the chequered flag 0.7 seconds ahead of the 42 car, whoever was driving it.
