Race report by Steve Sykes: Race two, held late in the afternoon, was the Simon Clarke show as he drove to victory from 20th on the grid, evoking memories of Richard Dalton’s similar feat at Oulton Park in 1998. Nick Paton was on pole for this one ahead of Mark Turner in the Myatt car (with new engine) and both Ainslie Bousfield and Simon Turner (in Sammie Fritchley’s car) were starting from the midfield. Peter Dalkin had done a superb job to qualify third and Jessica Owen was going better this time round after the Tete Rouge crew discovered that the throttle had not been opening properly on her car in the first race.

Race report by Steve Sykes: What’s the worst thing that can happen in practice? Have one of your drivers go off at Copse and then have your other driver crash into them, severely damaging both cars? That was the scenario that confronted the Tete Rouge team at Silverstone. The best thing that could happen under the circumstances? That the race was not until the next day. Cue frantic rebuilding, working till midnight on Saturday, a dash back to Lincolnshire for a spare car onto which were grafted the still usable panels from the totalled shell of Jessica Owen’s car (the resulting red and silver colour scheme was much admired) and both Tete Rouge cars took the start just after lunch on Sunday.

Race report by Steve Sykes: For the second race some drivers did their best to confuse everyone by switching to a different car; others stayed in the same car; and some who hadn’t raced in the first leg took over cars that had. Included among these were two Turners. Confused? The commentators reached for the Anadin and carried on bravely.

Amongst the non-first-racers was Simon Clarke, fresh from his excursion to the Spa 24 hours where he showed three Belgians how to drive their car by being quicker than all of them even though he’d never been to the circuit before.

Race report by Steve Sykes: The 2011 2CVparts.com 2CV championship kicked off with two races at Oulton park on Saturday 26 March and the motto was; don’t get pole! Neither polesitter was able to convert their advantage to a race win on a chilly Cheshire afternoon, a day when the sun decided it had done enough work for this week, thank you, and took the whole day off.

Reigning champion Sammie Fritchley stated her intention by planting her Tete Rouge car on pole for the first race, only to get mugged into the first corner by Ainslie Bousfield in one of the two Gadget Racing cars, and previous champ Phil Myatt decided he’d have a bit of this too so they came down to Cascades three abreast. Phil eked out a lead until Sammie decided she’d better get on with this and started setting fastest laps to bring her onto his tail, with Ainslie sitting astern observing and waiting for something to go wrong. It didn’t.
